A white shirt and jeans can look crisp, relaxed, borrowed or dressed up. Jewellery is often the detail that decides which version you are wearing. The easiest approach is to look at the collar first, then choose one shape that changes the mood: a pearl, a hoop, a chain or a brooch.
1. Two fine gold chains inside an open collar
Layer one plain chain with a slightly longer pendant, leaving enough space for both to be seen. The shorter chain should sit above the shirt opening; the pendant should fall inside it. Two lengths are plenty for an ordinary day.
If the chains twist together, change one to a different link shape or wear a single chain. The look should feel relaxed, not require constant untangling.

2. Pearl studs with dark indigo jeans
Pearl studs and dark denim make the outfit look sharper without making it formal. Leave the shirt slightly loose or roll the sleeves so the pearls do not feel too neat. Cream pearls are softer; bright white pearls create a cleaner contrast.
You can add a watch or simple ring, but a pearl necklace is not necessary. The small studs do enough near the face.

3. Sculptural silver hoops with faded denim
Faded denim and a roomy cotton shirt suit a smooth silver hoop. Choose a slightly substantial shape instead of a very thin circle. The extra weight gives the simple outfit a clear point of view.
Keep necklaces quiet when the hoops are bold. A plain chain tucked inside the shirt is enough.

4. A vintage brooch at the collar
Button the shirt to the collar and pin a small brooch just below one collar point or at the centre where the two sides meet. A geometric, floral or enamel pin can make a familiar shirt feel completely different.
Use a light brooch on fine cotton. Heavy pins can drag the collar down or leave visible holes.
5. Coloured beads with a linen shirt
A white linen shirt can take one strand of matte or softly polished beads. Turquoise, coral, amber and moss green all work well with denim. Keep the strand short enough to sit above the shirt opening or long enough to fall well below it.
Avoid the awkward middle length that catches repeatedly on the collar edge.
6. A watch and one ring for the quiet version
Some days the best jewellery sits away from the neckline. A clean watch and one low-profile ring keep the outfit minimal, especially with a sharply cut shirt or wide-leg jeans.
Mixing metals is easy here. A silver watch with a gold ring looks deliberate if both designs are simple.
7. Long earrings when the shirt is fully buttoned
A buttoned shirt creates a solid vertical line, so a narrow drop earring can lengthen it without adding another detail at the collar. Tuck the hair behind one ear or wear it up so the shape stays visible.
Check that the earrings do not brush the collar when you turn your head. A slightly shorter pair will be more comfortable for a full day.
